Griffith Statement on Anniversary of Terrorist Attacks in Benghazi, Libya

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement on the anniversary of the September 11, 2012 terrorist attacks on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya:

“One year ago, the American consulate in Benghazi, Libya was attacked by terrorists.  Tragically, four Americans were killed.  We remember and honor their lives and their service to these United States, and are deeply grateful to the many brave Americans who continue to serve and protect our country.

“Following the attacks, the American people were assured of the importance of bringing the terrorist attackers to justice.  Since that time, however, we have not been provided with sufficient answers as to what happened prior to, during, and after the attacks, nor have we brought to justice those who executed Americans.

“I believe Congress must pass Congressman Frank Wolf’s resolution to form a Select Committee to investigate the attacks on our consulate in Benghazi.  We have not been able to get the answers that we need by having a number of congressional committees do separate investigations.  If we are to truly honor Ambassador Christopher Stevens, diplomat Sean Smith, and security officers Glen Doherty and Tyrone S. Woods, we owe it to their families and the American people to have a select group of Congressmen and Congresswomen whose committee’s focus is on Benghazi and getting to the truth.  Once we have the answers, then America must be equally focused on bringing the terrorists to justice.”
