Griffith Supports Legislation Urging Congress to Stand with Israel

Congressman Morgan Griffith (R-VA) issued the following statement today after cosponsoring the United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012 (H.R. 4133):

“Israel is one of our strongest allies.  Ensuring a safe and secure Israel must remain a top priority of U.S. foreign policy.  I’m very pleased to sign on to this legislation, and I applaud my colleagues for bringing it forward.  Often, the enemies of Israel are the enemies of the United States.  We must make certain that Israel has the ability to fight terrorism and protect its sovereignty.  We don’t have to export democracy to Israel or send our troops to fight their battles.  The United States just needs to stand by Israel, our democratic ally.”

BACKGROUND:  The United States-Israel Enhanced Security Cooperation Act of 2012 - States that it is U.S. policy to: (1) reaffirm the commitment to Israel's security as a Jewish state; (2) provide Israel with the military capabilities to defend itself and help preserve its qualitative military edge; (3) expand military and civilian cooperation; (4) assist in a negotiated settlement of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict that results in two states living side by side in peace and security; and (5) encourage Israel's neighbors to recognize Israel's right to exist as a Jewish state.
